“The Only Way We May Life: From Dry Bones to a Living Army” (Ezekiel 37:1-4): ARBC Worship (11.7.21)

[Our apologies for the glitches. Our hope is that you may still understand the truth of God’s Word this morning.]

I sensed God calling me into the ministry around 1990-1991. I had been in church my whole life but God was calling me to something else. I remembered for the first time being so thirsty for the Word–so much so that I would take my pocket Bible to class at community college to read, sometimes not paying attention to what the professor was saying. I remember devouring book after book (me? read?) and longingly awaiting for the monthly cassette (remember cassettes) of John MacArthur to come in. I remembered thinking, “I want to do that. I want to help people understand God’s Word better not just out of interest but for transformation.”

I quickly became an expository preacher, meaning that I would go through a passage or a book and expose what God said in His Word–that the meaning of the text would become the meaning of the sermon. My aim was not to be cute or creative but to prayerfully help the Word be clear. That you would walk out of this worship gathering this morning not only knowing the Word of the Lord better but also knowing the Lord of the Word better. Why do I go into all that? Because, this morning, we will see that the only way we may live is by the Word of God empowered by the Spirit of God.
